Brown Scoria Ramen Bowl

$59.00

Handmade in Canterbury from locally sourced clay, these ceramic ramen bowls feature a distinctive brownish, toasty glaze that mimics the scoria of Banks Peninsula. Each one is perfectly imperfect - a celebration of craftsmanship and individuality.

Food safe and made to be enjoyed every day.

We are Angu and Fleur, two potters who grew up in the Waitaha/Canterbury region. When we’re not potting, we spend our time in nature - among braided rivers, beech forests, tussocked hills, and alpine meadows. It’s from these landscapes that we draw much of our aesthetic inspiration.

Angu’s forms are an amalgamation of his Chinese heritage and Kiwi identity, blending into functional ware reminiscent of his childhood. He is still in search of the perfect rice bowl.

Fleur is deeply influenced by the fascinating process that transforms a pot into a memory, a feeling, and ultimately, a personal taonga. She creates with function in mind - how the lip of a cup meets the lip of the drinker, how a handle nestles into the fingers, and whether the vessel holds just the right amount.

It’s through these shared considerations that our pottery takes shape. We often test new forms ourselves, using them in daily life before sending them out into the world. We’re currently exploring ways to bring a stronger sense of terroir to our work - using local materials to create an aesthetic unique to what Waitaha/Canterbury has to offer.

Come find us on Instagram to learn more about our work and follow along on our ceramic journey.
