Cult Ceramics

(Courtenay Feck) Visual Artist
Ōtautahi, Christchurch

Based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Courtenay creates functional ceramics guided by intuition rather than instruction. She likes a starting point, not a rulebook. Her process is instinctive and experimental, letting each piece evolve through making rather than working towards a perfectly predetermined outcome.

Speckled clay, earthy colours, carved surfaces and sculptural details give her work a distinctly tactile quality. For Courtenay, luxury isn't pristine porcelain or polished perfection. It's the texture of earth beneath your fingertips, the satisfaction of running your hands over a carved surface, and objects that make you want to pick them up and have a closer look.

Her practice is an ongoing experiment in trusting the process, following her instincts and seeing what happens when she stops overthinking it. Through Cult Ceramics, she makes functional art for people who appreciate a little texture, a little unconventionality, and objects that are anything but ordinary.
