‘The Golden Hour’ celebrates the golden hour light on the Omanu dunes (Mount Maunganui).
This serene time announces the arrival of the day. I have used a variety of media to capture the movement and depth of a moment that will vanish with the changing light. The use of multiple mediums also conveys the haphazard and textured growth throughout the dunes in spring. Cascading freesias and chaotic beach grasses frame the path that leads to the beach.

Last Summer represents a typical New Zealand holiday spot. The pohutukawas, bach and agapanthas are signifiers of summer.
The central feature of this artwork is a storm water drain. Commonly seen around coastal areas, storm water drains would not usually be considered ‘beautiful’, but surrounding this drain is lush greenery, overgrown and thriving due to the fresh water the drain provides.
The pooled water creates a lovely olive and golden haze, reflecting the backdrop of dense plant life, creating a tranquil scene.

In the Countryside is inspired by a trip around the Waitomo countryside, I was so taken with the creamy yarrow flowers that lined the roadside and the vivid greens of the grass and paddocks. It was all rather dreamy in the bright, summer NZ sun.
These new landscape works invite the viewer to pause and find solace in places that feel familiar, though not entirely recognisable. Through layered colour and soft transitions, these paintings evoke atmosphere as much as place, guiding the eye toward light on the horizon and awakening a quiet curiosity about what lies just beyond the path.

Path to Long Bay captures the brilliant light of long summer days. Ultramarine underpainting is used to bring vibrancy to the oil paints, accentuating the depth of the dense bush surrounding our coastline.
This artwork offers comfort in the familiarity of a typical New Zealand landscape - the cascading hydrangeas, the powerline, the bright orange road sign. However, the grass path trails off to a hidden beach, backed by densely covered hills, inviting the viewer to contemplate where this landscape may lead them.
