Lisa Banks

Visual Artist
Ōtautahi, Christchurch

Lisa Banks is a New Zealand-based intuitive abstract and landscape artist whose work explores emotion, seasonal cycles, and inner transformation through expressive colour and painterly mark-making. Guided by instinct her paintings emerge through layers of movement, texture and feeling.

Influenced by her background in yoga, mindfulness and cyclical living, Banks approaches painting as both process and practice; a conversation between stillness and expression. Her work often reflects themes of emergence, rest, hope and renewal, drawing on the emotional landscapes that accompany personal change.

Working intuitively, she allows colour to lead and gestural forms to convey moods that are difficult to articulate in words. Each painting becomes less a depiction of a place and more an embodied experience and an invitation to pause.

Originally from London, Lisa studied photo journalism at The London College of Printing before obtaining a BA Hons in Dance and Drama. She then worked as a high school teacher before finally deciding to follow her twin passions of painting and yoga.
