"God grant me the serenity to ACCEPT the things I cannot change" is how the prayer starts…. I'm a drunk, thirty years dry and still need constant reminders that the best is yet to come as my bro Paora often says. Choosing to see what wonders and blessings are present and being grateful for those, not resentful of what is not present, is a practice for someone like me, not a natural state at all. "And Acceptance is the answer to all of my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact unacceptable to me and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment." I accept that I can never attain the never tired, never sexist, never racist, always sustainable, always perfect human status that seems to be demanded in today's World. I accept am not always my best person and believe that the content of my character, as Dr. King put it, might be judged by my efforts to mitigate my weaknesses rather than in the fact that like everyone else, I have them.
