Fragility Sculptural Lamp
Mariska de Jager
Dimensions: H 420 x W 290 x D 150mm
Working from her studio in Ōhope, Mariska De Jager creates contemplative figurative ceramic sculptures that explore the quiet complexity of the human experience. Drawn to the expressive possibilities of the human form, Mariska captures mood and emotion through subtle shifts in pose, gesture and expression.
Fragility is a recurring theme within her practice. Her figures explore the many emotions that shape our inner lives - from anxiety and despair to love, hope and resilience - reflecting Mariska’s interest in the delicate balance between vulnerability and strength. Every face tells a story, with the smallest changes in the eyes, mouth or posture revealing something of what lies beneath the surface.
Rather than defining a single emotion or narrative, Mariska leaves space for the viewer to connect with each figure in their own way. Her work is deeply personal, drawing on her own feelings and experiences and inviting a sense of recognition, empathy and quiet reflection.
