Frankie Bakker is a New Zealand–based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, textile, murals, sculpture, and printed matter. Her practice is informed by place and observation, engaging with everyday forms, humour, and narrative as a way of thinking through connection and experience. Alongside studio work, she undertakes public and community-based projects, producing works that move between intimate and shared contexts.
The ‘Lift’ Series was a personal study of the human as a social being. I developed a belief that lifting ourselves out of our brains and optimising a social balance, would allow for heart, soul, and mind development. We are animals after all, who’s your flock, your mate, your herd, or your mother/nurturer? Even a cowboy is never totally a lone ranger.
The series includes AFFECTION which embodies self-nurture whole CHICK encapsulates motherly nurture. TOGETHER, PUNTING and CONNECTED explore relationships, love, and commitment.
